Interesting development in Astrophytum asterias

Post by MikeInOz »

These are Astro asterias ''rainbow'' The samller one is changing colour. It's obviously not the mix. What is it? Some kind of variegation? Genetic shenanigans? Has any one seen it?

Could it be a Kohyo mutation? Spring is around the corner, so that is the normal time for them to change colors with this mutation. I normally find it in Astrophytum myriostigma.

However, it could also be a nutrient deficiency. That does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with the soil or the water, some plants are unable to use nutrients as well.

Yes it's curious. Last year it was normal. We'll see what happens....
